~ Yoda's most iconic quote in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. |
Yoda is one of the overarching protagonists of the Star Wars franchise. He is a wise and experienced Jedi who is an important figure to the light side of the Force. He helped train many heroes and others such as Luke Skywalker to fight against the dark side of the Force.
He was portrayed in motion-capture and voiced by Frank Oz in the saga films and Tom Kane in the Clone Wars media.
What Makes Him A Guile Hero?[]
- When he ran the Jedi Order back in the day, he effectively trained his youngling apprentices with cotton wool gloves (which was a stark contrast to the brutally harsh training regimen he subjects Luke to in Empire).
- When he was skeptical of Luke's worthiness as a Jedi, Yoda gives him grueling physical and psychological challenges to overcome so Luke could face his fears, and throughout the training; he scrutinizes Luke's flaws and failings to help shape him up into a competent Jedi by the end. Given how badly Luke was burnt before, and how dangerous both Vader and the Emperor are, Yoda's reasoning was valid.
- Yoda sending Luke into the cave to experience the Dark Side, which allowed Luke to realize that he could've give into the Dark Side himself once when Luke thought he killed Vader but Yoda made the mask explodes and reveals Luke's own face as a subtle message.
- In The Last Jedi, he reiterates the lesson even more bluntly, telling Luke that failure is life's greatest teacher and that dwelling on it never does any good.
- He deliberately concealed Luke's relationship from Vader since Yoda believed that the truth would compromise Luke's mission to destroy the Sith (which fortunately enough, Yoda misjudging the situation entirely didn't prevent Luke from saving the day despite knowing Vader is his father).
- He pretended to be a wacky old hermit in The Empire Strikes Back as a test of Luke's patience and tolerance of strangers once he acted as a "mischievous swamp creature" who "claims" to know Yoda, then proceeds to waste Luke's time in looking for him in order to test his patience, which Luke did fell for it. Which he did to hide his true colors underneath a senile demeanor as an incredibly wise and powerful Jedi.
- He managed to survive on Dagobah for over twenty years, on top of that; he actually lived in harmony with what normally is the world's incredibly hostile wildlife. He even built himself a fully functioning home out of materials that were more than clay, mud and whatever plant materials that were available at his disposal.
