Woody Pride, better known simply as Woody, is the main protagonist of the Toy Story films.
He is an anthropomorphic, cowboy doll who starts off as a rude egotist who clearly sees himself above the other toys. It is however, after he commits the act of accidental defenestration on Buzz, that he begins the path of redemption, to which by the end of the first film, becomes a competent, and selfless hero.
He was voiced by Tom Hanks.
What Makes Him a Guile Hero?[]
In General[]
- Woody has shown himself to be a competent leader to the toys, with him often coming up with plans and calling the shots.
- He has shown himself to be a very charming character, even prior to his redemption.
- He is very loyal to his friends and his owner.
In Toy Story[]
- Prior to his change of heart, he created a plan to get Buzz trapped behind Andy's dresser that involved manipulating a naive Buzz into thinking there was a trapped toy behind it, this was all so that Andy would be forced to pick him to go to Pizza Planet.
- Although his original plan of pretending to be Buzz failed, he ultimately bounces back from this.
- Motivates Buzz into helping him escape Sid's house.
- He orchestrates a plan to stop Buzz from blowing up with the help of Sid's toys, with said planning involving scaring Sid by sneakily getting out of his house, and then scaring him away by revealing that he and the other toys are alive.
- Makes it to the back of Andy's moving truck, and then uses RC to then save Buzz and help him evade Sid's dog.
- Upon the flame on his match going out, he then uses Buzz's helmet to reflect on the fuse of Sid's rocket that had been strapped to Buzz's back to then get to Andy's moving truck.
In Toy Story 2[]
- Used Buster as a mount to get to the Yard Sale to save Wheezy.
- Has shown skills in stealth, such as when he was able to make his way over to Al and almost grabs his other arm, and was only stopped because Stinky Pete turned on the TV.
- Used Bullseye to catch up to the moving truck that contained Jessie.
- Hid inside a guitar holder to get onto the plane that was shipping Jessie to Japan undetected.
- Tells Buzz to get behind the front wheel of the plane, and then uses his pull-string as a lasso, throws it around a bolt, and then swings with Jessie onto the back of Bullseye.
In Toy Story 3[]
- Reassured the other toys that they weren't being thrown away by pointing out that Andy had yet to discard them after all this time.
- Tried to convince the other toys that Andy was putting them in the attic, rather than throwing them out.
- Managed to stealthily sneak out of Sunny Side Daycare using improvised methods, such as using a mini glider to fly across the playground and only failed to get back home due to harsh winds throwing him up into the air.
- Uses a computer to find the coordinates of Andy's house.
- After finding out about the atrocities that Lots-o committed, and the danger his friends were in, he snuck back into Sunny Side by hiding inside Bonnie's schoolbag.
- Orchestrated a complex plan to bust himself, and his friends out of Sunny Side, this includes.
- Mr. Potato Head creating a distraction for the monkey that was watching.
- Grabbed Slinky in the time that the monkey along with the other guards were distracted.
- Snuck into the monkey's hide out with the help of Slinky, and then had the monkey tied up, effectively rendering him useless to Lots-o and the other guards.
- Once the monkey was immobile, he grabbed the keys to the Daycare from the Bulletin Board.
- Once Slinky made it clear that the monkey was no longer watching, Jesse gave Hamm and Rex the signal to start a fake fight, alerting demo mode Buzz, allowing Jessie to get out, and capture him under a plastic container.
- Once this was done, Jessie had Bullseye grab a tortilla for Mr. Potato Head to use a new body.
- Flung the Daycare key under the door for Jesse to grab.
- Once Mr. Potato Head made it clear that Lots-o was asleep, Mrs. Potato Head used to key to unlock the door to the Caterpillar Room.
- Had Barbie deceive Ken into letting her out, and then forced him to tell her what they had done to Buzz, once she was told said info, she reported it back to Woody.
- Returned Buzz to a state where he was no longer trying to go against them.
- With all those steps complete, they managed to make it to the playground, thanks to Woody's skill in strategy.
- After evading the guards, the managed to make it to the garbage chute.
- Revealed to the other toys, including Big Baby, that Lots-o had been lying to them about their kids not loving them.
- Once he and the rest of the toys were going to the incinerator, he has everyone group up with Buzz, due to him being the only light source.
- Used a golf club to free Lots-o and save him from being shredded.
- Writes a note to Andy, telling him to donate his friends to Bonnie.
- Snuck into the attic box so that he could join his friends with Bonnie.
In Toy Story 4[]
- Conducted a rescue mission to get RC out from a roaring storm.
- Helps Bonnie create Forky by sneaking into her backpack, and then stealthily giving her the supplies to do so.
- Kept Forky from throwing himself in the trash and made sure Bonnie never lost him.
- Went to look for, and eventually found Forky after he threw himself out of the back of Bonnie's campervan.
- Convinced Forky to go back to Bonnie using his trash analogy.
- Used his pull-string voice box to get the attention of the girl in the Antic Store, and to get Gabby Gabby's dolls off of him.
- Although he did screw up Bo Peep's plan, it was by complete accident, as it was just him wanting to get Forky back, and was quick to apologize after it happened.
- Gets Bo Peep back on track by using his voice box.
- Helps Bo Peep with her plan to get him back to Bonnie.
- Created a plan to help Gabby Gabby get a new kid with the help of Bo Peep.
- Motivated Duke Kaboom to make the 40 foot jump by pointing out how he never gives never repeats the same stunt.
- He, along with Bo, now spends his life helping other lost toys find homes.
Trivia[]
- He is the only Toy Story character to be considered a Guile Hero.
- He, and Mike Wazowski are one of two Pixar characters to be a Guile Hero.
