~ The Man with No Name to Tuco - one of the most famous quotes in all of cinema. |
The Man with No Name, also known as "the Good,'' is the main protagonist of Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy, also known as The Man with No Name Trilogy.
He is a rogue outlaw, who goes by several names and attempts to get large amounts of money. Despite this, he does have humanity and is honorable as well as principled. As time has gone by, he has helped the good side and done some good deeds, although always a lethal anti-hero at heart.
He was played by the legendary actor Clint Eastwood.
What Makes Him a Guile Hero?[]
- Even though he is a morally gray character and a greedy anti-hero who does morally questionable things, he is also very honorable, as he never purposefully harms innocents unless they stand in his way.
- He is one of the most positive characters in the trilogy, as he makes a huge number of crossings of the Goodness Zone. In particular, he reunites Marisol with her family and helps her escape from the city, frees this city from two dangerous criminal gangs, helps Douglas Mortimer avenge his sister, spares Tuco, and even gives him money, even though Tuco is, to put it mildly, not a role model.
- One way or another, he defeats three dangerous villains: Angel Eyes, El Indio, and Ramon Rojo. All three are Pure Evil.
- He is a highly successful marksman, capable of hitting targets at any distance.
- He successfully manipulates people. For example, he successfully pits two criminal groups against each other, forcing them to kill each other, and later he finishes off the rest. He also constantly turns Tuco over to the authorities for a reward, after which he saves him from the gallows and carries out this scheme several times (and each time he gives Tuco half of the money he earned, which once again proves his honorability). He also manipulates Tuco himself, most notably removing the bullets from his gun before the duel, and while this was clearly not an admirable act at all, given that Tuco, although a bandit, was clearly less evil than Angel Eyes, so it's unlikely that he deserved to die, it is likely that the Man With No Name did this because he was afraid that Tuco would kill him too after the death of Angel Eyes.
