Sylens is a major character in the Horizon series, who serves as the deuteragonist of Horizon Zero Dawn and a major character in Horizon Forbidden West. He is a mysterious Banuk wanderer, who has a deep obsession for the knowledge of the Old Ones, and would sometimes resort to rather questionable methods to attain it.
In an unexpected turn of events, Sylens soon helps Aloy in finding her true origins regarding her birth, and answers as to why the world has been as it is, while keeping his own secrets to himself and his true motivation.
He was portrayed by the late Lance Reddick.
What Makes Him a Guile Hero?[]
- Sylens, despite being a one-man army who does stuff on his own, is notably genius when it comes to his plans to get what he wants, mostly from his manipulative deal makings, as in the case with the Eclipse, Regalla's Rebels, and Sons of Prometheus.
- He spent decades of his life into searching the fate of the Old Ones by travelling through ancient ruins and with his past interactions with HADES, thereby obtaining him ancient knowledge including Physics and Calculus in the new Earth, which would be considerably beneficial in his quest.
- He was able to escape the Eclipse, after knowing that he would be betrayed in the first place by HADES and Helis, and hid to the ruins of GAIA Prime to monitor the cult in the shadows.
- He was able to deduce the truth behind Aloy's origins, with her being the clone of Elisabet Sobeck.
- After Aloy was captured by Helis, Sylens was able to deduce her getting caught by him at high noon in Sunfall. He killed a Corruptor all by himself and takes its overriding module to override three Ravagers and hatched a risky rescue plan to rescue her, despite Sylens having a history with Helis in the past.
- While working as a proxy for Regalla and Asera, Sylens was able to master the anti-shielding weapon to use it against Verbena Sutter and later improved upon it, when he sided with Aloy and her team again, before the final battle of the Far Zeniths. He was able to remove the energy shields of every Far Zenith with his weapon, giving the HEPHAESTUS machines (summoned by Beta) and Aloy's team the advantage to turn the tide of the battle against the Zeniths.
