"Star Swirl the Bearded" is a supporting character of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. He is considered to be the most talented unicorn wizard in Equestria. In earlier seasons of the show, he is occasionally mentioned by character when talking about his magical spells. He makes his full debut in Shadow Play - Part 1 where he and the Pillars of Old Equestria are released from limbo. After being released from limbo, Star Swirl, the Pillars, Mane Six, Starlight Glimmer, Sunburst, and Spike work together to stop the Pony of Shadows.

- Immediately ordered Twilight Sparkle to lock him and the other Pillars of Old Equestria back in limbo in an attempt to trap the Pony of Shadows.
Shadow Play - Part 2[]
- Revealed that he and the Pillars of old Equestria created the Castle of Friendship by planting a seed 1000 years ago.
- Planned to sacrifice the Elements of Harmony as a way to banish the Pony of Shadows to save Equestria.
- Nearly banished the Pony of Shadows before learning of Stygian's motives of wanting to become a Pillar.
- Saved Stygian before banishing the Pony of Shadows.
- Admitted his mistakes of being prideful to the point it clouded his judgement and had apologized for his arrogant attitude.
