Sans is the tritagonist of Undertale.
He is an anthropomorphic skeleton who is primarily known for his rabid pun making. He is first encountered outside of the ruins exit, where he quickly makes his presence as a looming shadowy figure, only for him to prank the player with a whoopie cushion.
Sans is a generally lazy character, with him being seen sleeping on the job and not even being able to pick up a sock at his brother Papyrus's request. It is however during the game's various routes that you get hints that Sans is more than he lets on. With his true colors being realized in the genocide route, where he reveals his knowledge of timelines and has quite the fighting ability, even if it meant being a trickster as well.
What Makes Him A Guile Hero?[]
- He's the only character in the game (aside from Flowey) who has some form of awareness of saves and resets, and he also reacts accordingly to this, such as getting Frisk to quit the Genocide Route to bring back fallen monsters and stopping them from destroying the timeline, and trying to convince them in their next playthrough to be more pacifistic if they killed monsters.
- Killed Frisk by tricking them into thinking he was sparing them, showing his manipulative side.
- While he does seem to act incompetent when he's with Papyrus while he tried capturing Frisk, this is just a facade since he didn't want to capture Frisk unlike Papyrus simply because of his promise he made with Toriel.
- He didn't tell Toriel that Frisk killed Papyrus because he knew she'd be upset knowing Frisk would do that.
- Despite being lazy, there are times where he did such hard work that requires some degree of intelligence, such as managing the Underground alongside Papyrus in the King Papyrus ending, doing much of the complicated stuff for Papyrus.

- So far, he's the only Undertale and Deltarune character to be a Guile Hero.
