Rue is a supporting character of the first Hunger Games book and its first film. She is a harvester from District 11 that got chosen by the Capitol to participate in the Hunger Games. Before the start of the Hunger Games, Rue meets Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark during a training session. After the training session, Rue enters the Hunger Games alongside the other tributes to fight to the death for the entertainment of the Capitol. During the Hunger Games, Rue teams up with Katniss, so that they could increase the chance of them surviving together.
