Revali is one of the major characters in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and he is among of the four Champions of Hyrule alongside Mipha, Daruk, and Urbosa, who were chosen to pilot the Divine Beasts to help Link and Princess Zelda beat back Calamity Ganon. He is considered a friendly rival to Link as he sees himself as superior to the Hylian knight. He is experienced in archery and uses Revali's Gale to soar into the air anytime. He returns in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Depending on the games, Revali and the Champions either die in Breath of the Wild or they survive in Age of Calamity with Terrako's help.
What Makes Him Guile?[]
- Revali is among the most skilled archers who can fly and shoot targets with his bow at the same time and is noted to have won several archery competitions and constantly setting high scores. Generally, the Rito can fly forward, but they cannot ascend upwards and must rely on the wind if they wish to go higher. For Revali, he trained himself to great heights to master the art of creating updrafts which he dubs Revali's Gale, which was thought to be impossible during his time, and that creation allowed him to fly at any time.
- Despite the fact that he can be proud, arrogant, and quite a jerk at times, it doesn't detract too much from his intelligence when he's dealing with a real situation, and he has several moments where he shows himself to be a genuinely empathetic caring person who looks out for his friends and even mourns Terrako. He may be boastful at best and abrasive at worst, but he is never cruel or disloyal.
- He is very sophisticated in his speaking patterns and comes across as charismatic at times.
- When Revali was asked for a prize that he wanted in honor of his achievements, he asked for the Flight Range to be constructed at Dranoc Pass, which was his personal training ground before he opened it to the general public, especially the children when the day Ganon would return drew near. This would aspire other Rito to train there and even after a hundred years, it is well taken care of and continued to be used. He made that request to serve his people in this way as he deeply cares about them.
- As the commander of the Rito military, Revali has great strategic and leadership skills, and he is well respected by his countrymen who answer to him to come up with a strategy. During the Revali, The Rito Warrior scenario, he had the Rito Captain destroy the bridge to Rito Village in a misguided attempt to protect it, (he and the Rito soldiers thought that Harbinger Ganon, Terrako's dark counterpart, was leading another attack at the time), and he had the other Captains stationed at the outposts and the archers attacking from the high places.
- As the last line of defense, Revali shows himself to be very intelligent battle-wise as he takes advantage of his marksmanship, ability to fly and speed to disarm Link of his shield and uses bomb arrows to create a smokescreen as to catch Link by surprise.
- During The Yiga Clan Attacks Scenario in gameplay, when the Champions are dealing with the aforementioned cult, Revali at one-point suggests a pincer attack, by fighting from both the western and eastern outposts outside the enemy stronghold.
- He can also understand wind patterns to sense danger, as shown in the Freeing Korok Forest Scenario (it can only be seen if Revali is chosen as a playable warrior) and he is proven correct, since Astor, the Hollows, and odd appearances of Malice were present at this time.
- Revali did have a few slip-up moments here and there:
- For one he was killed by Windblight Ganon in Breath of the Wild, after Vah Medoh was corrupted by this entity which brought him some embarrassment on his part, evident that he states that he was only "winging it". He had no choice but to swallow his pride and implores Link to avenge him. Once the Divine Beast was taken back to the Hyrulean side, he isn't hesitant to thank him for his efforts and he returned to supporting Link.
- A few more occur in Age of Calamity: the closest that Revali came to endangering an innocent life was during the Revali, The Rito Warrior Scenario where he almost killed Link before Princess Zelda stopped the fight, the reason why he and the Rito attacked them was because the Diminutive Guardian, Terrako resembled the one that attacked the village. Because Revali has no bad intentions, it was a mistake, and he has not done it again since. when Revali gets pulled into Impa and Terrako's scuffle in front of the other Champions and he wisely chose to flee to regain his composure. Then again, because of Terrako's summoning of the four Champion successors from the future, another happens when Revali needed to be saved by Link while alive (he doesn't want him to see him making a fool of himself). In all of these scenarios, his psyche isn't negatively impacted too much and often manages to recover from them relatively quickly.
- Revali has a strong rivalry with Link, as he initially wasn't too pleased with merely being a supporter to him when he wanted to be the main hero which results in him looking down on him from time to time. As much as he isn't fond of being a mere sidekick, he never tries to take it away from Link and it took a dire reality and him needing to be saved by the person he picks on to compel him to give Link his respect and appreciate the role he has. Furthermore, in one of the secret dialogues in The Champions' Ballad, he had longed to actually challenged him to a duel and no matter the outcome, he would have been content with settling the score with him. He is clearly seeing Link as a worthy opponent in this dialogue.
- Revali is very respectful to those who are more skilled than he is, and he gives it once it is due. This frequently occurs during the scenarios and missions where he praises another warrior for their feats.
- He is usually the one who reassures his allies when they are worried, shown when Teba is shocked that Windblight Ganon still stands, he assures him that help has arrived because of his keeping him alive and when Terrako is getting rebuilt, he logically tells them that it's still trying to wake up.
- Revali took notice of a Rito child in the forest and managed to get a description on his appearance and managed to tell Teba about him and they go out to search for this child, who is actually Tulin, whom Teba recognizes as his son. Revali's observation has hinted Teba on the child's identity when he said that he never saw him before.
- He has a real gentle spot when it comes to children, and it's made clear when he praised Tulin for guiding them safely out of the forest, and this is one of the very rare moments where Revali actually laughs.
