Nacho Varga, also known as Ignacio Varga, is a major supporting character of Better Call Saul. He makes his first appearance in "Mijo", where he is seen working with Tuco Salamanca during an interrogation with Jimmy McGill and his skaters. Nacho distinguishes himself from Tuco and his other men by deducing Jimmy's lies and confirming his status as a lawyer. Nacho later introduces Jimmy into the cartel business and eventually makes a plan on getting rid of Tuco. Due to Tuco's hot-blooded temper, Nacho is pushed into wanting him murdered, but he is only dug deeper into greater danger by having to confront the entire Salamanca Family.

What Makes Him a Guile Hero?[]

Season 1[]

  • He first starts off as a criminal drug dealer and slowly works his way into finding redemption, so that his father, Manuel Varga, is safe from the drug business.
  • He figured out that the so-called "Operation King Breaker" is a made up term that Jimmy made to save his own life from Tuco. Nacho figured that the lies Jimmy had spout out was due to the latter's desperation to be spared from Tuco's torture.
  • Makes a secret drug dealing business with Pryce to stop Tuco from finding out his activities.

Season 2[]

  • Worked with Mike Ehrmantraut to orchestrate a plan for Tuco to be killed, due to believing the latter's anger issues to be a liability that can endanger his own life.

Season 3[]

  • Realizing that his father's strong moral compass will result in him rejecting Hector Salamanca's deal to take over his trucks. By refusing Hector's deal, Nacho is able to predict that Hector's reaction will be to kill his father out of spite.
  • When Hector spills his pills during his tantrum over Tuco's extended sentence, Nacho sneakily moves his foot to hide a pill that Hector had spilled on the floor. Nacho later uses the pill to manufacture fake medicine that can eventually give Hector a stroke.
  • He met with Daniel Wormald and had him get copies of Hector's medical pills, so that they would be used to replace Hector's real pills.
  • Before proceeding with the plan of switching Hector's pills, Nacho takes Mike's advice on switching the pseudo pills back to the original ones, so that it will be less likely that Nacho himself is exposed for poisoning Hector.
  • With the new pills he received from Daniel, Nacho removes the substances inside them and replaces it with sugar.
  • He trained himself for a night in preparation for the day he will switch Hector's pills.
  • Before his father, Manuel, opens his restaurant, Nacho destroys the air conditioning in the middle of the night, which would thereby make Hector take off the coat where he stores his pills.
  • Upon receiving Domingo's money, Nacho gives it to Hector and pretends to ask the latter if the money is fake, so that Hector himself will take the time to analyze it. As Hector looks at the cash, Nacho secretly steals his medicine on the coat he took off.
  • Pretends to clumsily drop a pile of cash near Hector, so he would get a chance to get near his pocket.
  • He counted the number of pills Hector has, before replacing them with the fake ones and making sure they are all even before returning it all to Hector.
  • After training himself for hours, he is able to successfully throws the fake pills onto Hector's coat and not be spotted.
  • When Hector finally receives his stroke, Nacho sneakily collects all of Hector's fake pills under Gustavo Fring's nose.
  • Gave the authorities the real working pills of Hector, so they would never find out about the fake pills.
  • Attempted to dispose the fake medicine into the sewers, but failed due to Gustavo Fring wanting to talk to him.

Season 4[]

  • Is aware that the reasons Victor and Tyrus Kitt are shooting at him is so that Leonel and Marco Salamanca are manipulated into blaming the Espinosa Gang.
  • Joined Leonel and Marco Salamanca in their shootout with the Espinosas, so they would both be protected.

Season 5[]

  • He mixed the cocaine with an inferior version of it on Gus' orders, so that an attempt would be made to stop Lalo Salamanca from investigating Gus' hidden super lab.
  • Taking back the remaining cocaine inside a street dealers' house to stop the police from finding it.
    • To take them all back, Nacho showcases his ability to sneak inside the building, and it causes Lalo to praise him for his efforts.
  • Inside Lalo's home in Mexico, Nacho assists Gus' assassins on their mission to kill Lalo and all of the latter's allies. Although Nacho goes through with the plan, he is remorseful over endangering the innocent people inside Lalo's home.
  • Due to Lalo not feeling sleepy at night, preventing him from properly escaping his home, Nacho starts a fire made of cooking oil to lure Lalo away. After distracting Lalo, Nacho lets in the assassins and makes his getaway.

Season 6[]

  • He runs far away from Lalo's home and makes sure that he isn't spotted by anyone in the Salamanca territory.
  • Stayed inside a motel room under Tyrus' orders to be kept hidden from the Cartel.
  • Feeling suspicious of another building having a peak hole that can view his room, he sneaks into the building to investigate a potential watcher.
  • He learned that Gus wanted him to get caught by the Salamancas and the Cartel, due to the man investigating him receiving a call from Gustavo Fring himself.
  • With Leonel, Marco, and some cartel soldiers near his motel room, he hotwires a truck to prepare his escape.
  • Charged his stolen truck at full speed while firing his gun at both Leonel and Marco.
  • As his truck slowly breaks down, he goes inside of a damaged oil tanker. Inside it, he submerges himself within to oil to prevent Marco from spotting him.
  • Waited inside the tanker until midnight to make his next move.
  • He borrows a mechanic's telephone to have one more conversation with his father, Manuel Varga, before allowing himself to be taken in by Gus.
  • Allows himself to get beat up by Mike to look like a beaten hostage of Gus.
  • Secretly held a piece of glass that Gus had broken to make a plan on breaking himself out of his bindings.
  • Realizing that the situation of being confronted by the Salamancas, Juan Bolsa, Gus, and all of his men, it is clear that he no longer has any options for survival.
    • As a last resort, Nacho chooses to spite Hector by revealing to have switched his pills. Nacho then uses his hidden piece of glass to remove his binds and quickly stealing Bolsa's gun to hold him hostage. As the situation tenses up and Mike afar the distance encourages him to shoot Juan Bolsa, Nacho chooses to commit suicide, so he would die with dignity and spite everyone.
