Jane Foster, better known as the Mighty Thor, is a major character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She is the deuteragonist of both Thor and its sequel Thor: The Dark World, a mentioned character in Thor: Ragnarok, a cameo character in Avengers: Endgame and the titular deuteragonist of Thor: Love and Thunder.
Jane is Thor's ally and girlfriend, and an American astrophysicist who encountered Thor after he was banished to Earth by Odin. She would encounter Thor once again after she became the host of the Aether, and assisted the demigod in stopping Malekith and the Dark Elves.
Jane and Thor's relationship would later end after 2015, and she would later be one of the victims of Thanos' decimation until she was revived by the Hulk in 2023. In Love and Thunder, she inexplicably becomes worthy of the destroyed Mjolnir and takes on the form of The Mighty Thor.
She was portrayed by Natalie Portman.
What Makes Her a Guile Hero?[]
- Even before fighting Malekith and Gorr, Jane Foster first brings Thor to a hospital after he falls from the sky after being banished to Earth. She gives him food and shelter throughout the film and teaches him about human culture and what it means to be humble. In fact, Thor would later state to her that she made him worthy of Mjølnir.
- Once Thor leaves to defeat Loki and never comes back to Earth till The Avengers, she decides to go look for him.
- In Thor: The Dark World, she's still looking for Thor but when Harmonic Convergence arrives, she goes through a portal herself when studying kids play with the physics and portals and all that. She absorbs the Aether then ends up back on Earth. The evil Malekith senses the Aether has been found and attempts to take the Aether from Jane. Thor's mother however, hides Jane and prevents Malekith from getting her. The Dark Elves retreat once Thor arrives in his mother's chamber and blasts Malekith with lightning. To prevent any more Asgardian lives from dying, Thor goes with Jane and Loki to have Malekith suck the Aether out of Jane and destroy the Aether. The process backfires and Malekith absorbs it. Entering a portal at Svartalfheim, Jane and Thor meet Selvig, Ian and Darcy and they all formulate a plan to defeat Malekith at Greenwich. Jane actually realized Malekith would use the convergence's peak to spread the Aether throughout the cosmos via Greenwich. After Thor battles Malekith for awhile, he meets with Jane and Thor gets Selvig's devices which teleport things to other worlds. Thor uses the devices to stab Malekith while Jane uses her device to mutilate his body parts. Malekith is finally defeated when he and his ship are transported to Svartalfheim and Malekith is destroyed by his own ship.
- Jane Foster, in an attempt to cure her cancer, decided to go to Thor's hammer and finds she is worthy to wield it when its shards reform. She later stops some crimes with the power of Thor as Valkyrie tells Thor “Saving lives she's good at but everything else needs work.”.
- She herself helps Thor and the Asgardians when Gorr's shadow monsters attack the village to capture the kids. Jane, alongside Thor, attempt to get to the kids in the cage before they are teleported away.
- Thor, Valkyrie and herself decide to raise an army of gods. She tells them to use the Stormbreaker as an engine for a ship instead of Thor's malfunctioning Bifrost.
- When arriving at Zeus's hall, she kills Zeus's bodyguards (out of self defense) and helps Thor and Valkyrie attain Thunderbolt which Valkyrie uses against Gorr.
- Disappointed that they were unable to raise an army, they decide to head right into the Shadow Realm to rescue the kids.
- When reaching Gorr's hideout Jane discovers Gorr needs Stormbreaker, which has the power of the Bifrost to access Eternity, that's where he can wish for the death of all gods. They battle Gorr once he reveals himself but are forced to retreat with the Bifrost.
- After finding out Mjølnir is weakening Jane's ability to fight cancer, Thor decides to leave her behind with a choice, Either fight Gorr with Mjølnir and risk dying, or stay in the hospital to recover and live with Thor. Once Thor is losing to Gorr in the final battle, Jane decides to go help him on Valkyrie's horse. She goes toe to toe with Gorr while Thor frees Stormbreaker. She destroys All-Black the Necrosword. Thus Jane ridding Gorr of his corrupting influence which really helped Gorr redeem himself in the end, with the help of Thor of course. Thor convinced Gorr to revive his daughter instead of killing all gods. Jane then fades away and arrives in Valhalla.
