I mean, what do we know about Gustavo Fring, huh? This whole friend of law enforcement thing? Could be a case of keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. I mean, he's got the money to finance this operation, maybe he's got the connections, too. Maybe – just maybe – he's our guy.
~ Hank correctly suspecting that Gus Fring is a drug lord.
It was you. All along, it was YOU! You son of a b***h... you drove into traffic to keep me from that laundry. That call I got telling me Marie was in hospital? That wasn't Pinkman... you had my cell number. You killed ten witnesses to save your sorry ass. You bombed a nursing home. Heisenberg. Heisenberg! You lying, two-faced sack of s**t.
~ Hank's heroic breakdown after realizing Walter White is Heisenberg.

Henry R. "Hank" Schrader is the one of the two main antagonists (alongside Gus Fring) of the crime drama series Breaking Bad and a minor antagonist in Season 5 of its prequel series Better Call Saul.

Hank is the brother-in-law of Walter White and a DEA officer that is tasked with catching criminals who are behind meth operations. On Walt's 50th birthday, Hank took him to ride along to watch a drug operation getting destroyed. However, the ride along Hank had showed Walter had eventually resulted in the latter's choice to join the drug business. It soon leads to Hank dedicating himself to catching a criminal known as Heisenberg, while being unaware that Heisenberg is Walter.

What Makes Him a Guile Hero?[]

  • He and his DEA agents stormed inside a drug operation of Emilio Koyama and Jesse Pinkman.
  • Took Walter Jr. to a motel so he would learn how the meth heads lives and how Walter Jr. should not be involved with doing marijuana.
  • He searched inside the car of Krazy-8 and Emilio to find a secret compartment where they may potentially store their meth. Hank quickly finds meth in their car by playing around with the radio, resulting the meth being spat out.
  • Due to high quality the meth Krazy-8 and Emilio owned in their car, Hank deduces that new drug dealers are in the drug dealing business.
  • Recovered a mask found in the desert and used its origins at Walter's school as a way to clue in the people who cooked the meth for Krazy-8 and Emilio.

Season 2[]

  • He learned that Gonzo is a dumb criminal because of how he had accidentally crushed himself by a car.
  • Going to the house of the Pinkmans to find out where Jesse is, which would clue him in on where to find Walter.
  • Took shelter in his car to block Tuco Salamanca's bullets and quickly kills the latter before he could fire his assault rifle.
  • Interrogating Jesse after finding him with Wendy, and is under the suspicion that Jesse was with Tuco.
  • Brought in Hector Salamanca as the trump card to expose Jesse being with Tuco, but fails due to Hector refusing to rat out Jesse to the DEA.
  • Hearing loud booming sounds in the middle of the night, he picks up a gun from his bed drawer to investigate the origins of the sounds. Upon learning that the sounds were just bottles exploding, he calms down from the paranoia that there were gunshots.
  • Interrogating a cartel informant named Tortuga and intimidating him to give out crucial information of The Cartel.
  • Disturbed by looking at Tortuga's head on top of a tortoise, he walks out of the scene and had luckily saved his life from the head exploding on the other DEA agents.
  • Questioning Brandon Mayhew for how he was able to acquire the meth of Heisenberg and sell it.
  • He uses Badger to bait Heisenberg into exposing himself, but only fails due to Walter, Jesse, and Saul Goodman giving him James Kilkelly as a decoy.
  • Taking away the tequila from Walter so he would stop giving his son, Walter Jr., too much of the drink.
  • With the murder of Combo, Hank questions the possibility that Heisenberg hasn't been truly caught, since Combo was holding onto Heisenberg's meth.

Season 3[]

  • Upon gaining information that there is blue meth in Albuquerque, he heads back to town to continue his obsession to solve the Heisenberg case.
  • Talked to Cara, a gas station cashier, on how she received blue meth from a stranger. By questioning her, Hank is able to learn that the blue meth product originated from an RV that acts as a mobile meth lab.
  • He and Steve Gomez stalked out the people that owned an RV that matched Cara's description, so that the production of blue meth is found.
  • With the help of Janice looking through documents on one RV that was never renewed, Hank is able to find a clue that could lead him to the RV of Heisenberg.
  • Talked to Mrs. Ortega on how her RV was stolen by her son, Combo, and Jesse, which leads Hank into finding the right RV that could potentially contain the lab equipment necessary to produce meth.
  • Watched Skinny Pete, Badger, and Jesse from afar and waiting for the latter to lead him into his RV.
  • Once Jesse got onto his RV, Hank follows him into a junkyard, where they both confront each other.
  • Hank attempts to use a crowbar to force himself inside the RV and expose the meth equipment that is being hidden inside.
  • Called ASAC Merkert to ask for a warrant and gain permission into breaking inside the RV.
  • He realized right away that he was tricked into leaving Jesse with the RV alone, due to a fake phone call on how Marie was badly injured in a car accident.
  • Felt remorse over going too far in beating up Jesse inside the latter's home.
  • Took a random phone warning he got to consideration on how two assassins, being Leonel and Marco Salamanca are going to kill him.
  • Used his car to ram Leonel's legs into another car, disabling him from fighting.
  • Picked up the gun Leonel dropped onto his car and used it to shoot Marco.
  • Seeing a bullet Marco had dropped, Hank desperately grabbed it and reloaded his pistol to shoot Marco in the head.

  • Became a collector of minerals and is shown to be adept of his knowledge on the type of minerals being collected from the internet.
  • Looked through the notebook of Gale Boetticher on how his death is related to the Heisenberg case.
  • Seeing the "W.W" on Gale's note book, Hank is clued into the fact that Heisenberg's real name has two "W" letters.
  • He questions the fact on how Gale, a vegan, goes to Los Pollos Hermanos, a restaurant primarily famous for selling high quality chicken.
  • He has Walter Jr. request a soda drink from Gus Fring and then dumped the received soda drink on an evidence bag to be investigated of its products.
  • Came to the conclusion that Gale had cooked with Heisenberg in creating blue meth and that Gale himself is not Heisenberg.
  • As he looked into the scribbles on Gale's notebook, Hank figured out that the air-filtration system for Los Pollos Hermanos provides the perfect environment for cooking meth.
  • Found Gus' reaction to Gale's murder to be strange, since despite supporting the local law, Gus never bothered to report Gale's murder, except only being asked.
  • Wanted Walter to plant a bug on Gus' car, so that the latter is tracked and is potentially exposed as a meth distributor.
  • He suggest to Walter that they go drive to the Los Pollos Hermanos Factory Farm with the belief that it serves Gus Fring's drug distribution center.
  • Rather than to go to the Los Pollos Hermanos Factory Farm, Hank gets another idea and instead goes to the Lavandería Brillante, due the place's connections with the air-filtration system built by Madrigal Electromotive.
  • Since the entire family of Walter White is being threatened, he suspects it may be due to his investigation on Gus and so requests for Steve Gomez to investigate the Lavandería Brillante for answers.
  • He attempted to find information on what Hector is potentially giving him, but finds it a waste of time, because Hector uses it as an excuse to insult him.

Season 5A[]

  • Inspected the Lavandería Brillante and found the super lab that he had predicted would be hidden inside it.
  • Followed Mike Ehrmantraut and the former employees of Gus to find out what secrets they may be hiding.

  • Stops Jesse from lighting Walter's house on fire and then teams up with him to expose Walter as Heisenberg.
  • Prepared a plan when he hears Jesse's phone receiving a voicemail from Walter.
  • Spoke with Jesse to learn his entire relationship with Walter and the type of crimes they have committed together while being filmed on a camera.
  • He and Gomez watch over Jesse's meeting with Walter at a plaza and if Walter ever tries to murder Jesse, Hank can record the entire crime on tape.
  • With Jesse being refusing to go on a meeting with Walter, Hank instead follows Jesse's plan to expose Walter's hidden money.
  • Used a bloody meat package to give the appearance that Walter had shot Jesse's head and that the latter's head lost his brain.
    • By faking Jesse's death, Hank and Gomez were able to rat out information about Walter from Huell.
  • Based on Huell Babineaux's description on how the truck Walter used was dirty, Hank inferred that Walter hid his body in the desert.
