Flik is the main protagonist of the 1998 Pixar film, A Bug's Life. He is a hardworking and determined ant, who following his accidental loss of the entirety of his ant colony's supply of food meant for the grasshoppers, he set out to find warrior bugs strong enough to be able to help liberate the ants from the control of Hopper and the grasshoppers.

What Makes Him A Guile Hero?[]

  • In spite of the moments he does have of incompetence, most notably when he abolished the entirety of the ants' grain stock for Hopper as well as when he mistook a group of circus bugs for warriors, these moments are few and far between and come off more as cooling off periods, as in almost the entirety of the rest of the film, he's shown to be a technological genius who uses his to accomplish his goals.
  • He built a machine for the purpose of counting down every piece of grain at a faster pace and more efficiently than before, which was later utilized by the entire colony by the end.
  • After ruining the ants' supply of grain for the grasshoppers, he decided to venture out to find and bring warrior bugs to the island in order to help them fight off and become free from the grasshoppers' control for good.
  • Once he discovered Hopper's fear of birds, he took advantage of this and created a fake bird in order to scare him away from the ants.
  • Putting on a performance with the help of the Circus Bugs to distract the grasshoppers while he and the younger ants prepared to release the fake bird in order to scare Hopper and his grasshoppers away following the ants' enslavement by the grasshoppers. And in spite of his plan ultimately being a failure, this was due to one of the other bugs who wasn't aware of Flik's plan lighting his fake bird on fire rather than anything caused by Flik himself.
  • He was the one to uncover how the grasshoppers were secretly dependent on the ants rather than it being the other way around, with him unveiling the truth to the others and sparking a rebellion by the ants against the grasshoppers.
  • He lured Hopper over to the bird's nest, which led to him being eaten.
